This German restaurant blew us away with its warm, welcoming atmosphere, incredible food, and top-notch service. From the moment we walked in, we felt transported. The cozy ambiance, thoughtful décor, and lively yet relaxed vibe made it the perfect spot to settle in and enjoy a fantastic meal. The service was outstanding--friendly, attentive, and full of genuine hospitality that made us feel right at home. The food was nothing short of amazing. We started with the pretzel appetizer, which was perfectly baked--warm, soft, and served with delicious mustard and cheese sauces that we couldn't get enough of. And the Wiener schnitzel? Absolutely phenomenal. Perfectly crisp on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside--easily one of the best we've ever had. You could tell every bite was made with care and tradition. Whether you're a fan of German cuisine or just looking for a great place to eat and unwind, this spot is a must-visit. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. Prost!

A nice German Restaurant in South Lake Tahoe. Nicely decorated, friendly staff, pretty empty when we got there, but was filling up fast when we left. Full bar and a few TVs to enjoy sports. The squeeze did her own rating, so I will write this solo. Started off with the Brussels sprout appetizer. Nice charing and great flavor. I got the sausage plate with bratwurst and added a bockwurst. Great sausages, the sauerkraut was good, but the mashed potatoes really weren't very hot, just warm or tepid. Flavor was good, but... Seems like a plate warmer would be a good idea on these snowy days. Of course, I had to have the Weihenstefaner Dunkelweizen. Lovely beer, but they've been brewing for over a thousand years, so it should be. Daniel did a great job as well as did the other staff. Quite pleased with the visit.

I absolutely loved this spot. It was one of the food highlights of our trip Amazing vibe, super great staff, and absolutely delicious food. We got the sausage Platter and did an addon for all the sausage types so everyone could try all of it. A side of curry Wurst wwas amazing. They were out of the veal so we went with the chicken schnitzel and were not let down, and the spatzle was fantastic. Drinks were great. Obviously they have an amazing beer selection, and just all around a dang good time. David Hasselhoff would approve.

This was our favorite place in all of South Lake Tahoe!! The best food and flavors. We started with the giant pretzel appetizer and it was perfect for 4 people to share. So delicious and fresh. We ordered a pork schnitzel that was truly the best we e ever had. So many delicious flavors and the outer crust was divine. We also ordered the cheese spaetle that was to die for. For dessert they had a ton of options, we went with a Black Forest chocolate cake that was huge and so tasty. The service was great and very fast. We made a reservation because they said it gets busy after 5 with skiers coming from the mountain. The ambiance felt like an authentic German pub. We can't wait to go back!

My husband is German. He loves sausage and I love schnitzel. We finally after moving to Carson City 2 years ago decided to give it a try. A nice drive to South Lake Tahoe. The cottage style building is really neat looking. There is a ski slope right in front of it, so we watched skiers coming down waiting the few minutes for it to open. When entering, it looks really relaxing inside. Music playing at the perfect volume. Decor was really true to the restaurant. We had beers to accompany. I love a dark beer with German food. Hubby likes the lighter ones. We did a flight of each and that was very good. On to the food Our waitress Sydney D. was the sweetest. She directed us well upon ordering. Started with the mini Bavarian pretzel which comes with a delicious fondue and bacon onion jam. Oh my this stuff was delicious with the pretzel. 10/10 I wanted the veal schnitzel as I have never had it, but they are working on vendors right now, so I get that. I opted for the chicken as I have had pork schnitzel many times when living in Texas. It came with mashed potatoes with yager gravy and kase spaetzle. 10/10 Hubby had the 4 sausage plate that came with sauerkraut, mashed potatoes with yager gravy and kase spaetzle and a couple homemade pickles. The game sausages vary and they had 2, so , but the menu ones were equally delicious. We will be coming back to try the sauerbraten and a couple other dishes.

Almost always stop in at Himmel Haus when I'm in South Lake Tahoe. It can be sometimes difficult to get a table given that they're often busy, but if you're a party of 2, sitting at the bar is not a bad option. Service is often quite good. The beer selection is excellent as is the food. I don't think I've ever had anything bad here. That being said, I'll review the food on my most recent trip. My friend and I ordered the veal schnitzel subbing the mashed potatoes for kase spaetzle, the schweineshaxe pork shank, and apple streudel for dessert. The veal schnitzel was tender with a nice breading that wasn't greasy at all. The kase spaetzle could have used more cheese and was a little dry so I probably wouldn't do the substitution next time. The pork shank was absolutely tender and delicious but a bit different from the pork shank I had in Germany. I enjoyed it but would probably try something else from the menu when I go back next time. The apple streudel was rich and delicious and worth ruining my diet for.

Hard to get a reservation and the wait can be long without one, but we enjoyed the food and hospitality so much the first night that we came back for a second, wait and all. Highly recommend putting a meal at this spot on your to do list for your next visit to South Lake Tahoe. The food was delicious and kid friendly and the ambience was excellent.

This review is a bit overdue--my partner and I visited Himmel Haus in late November right before Thanksgiving but our experience was so lovely I still wanted to document it! This was our first time in Lake Tahoe and Himmel House consistently popped up in recommendations, so we decided to try it. We got a table on a Saturday night around 9 pm (an hour before closing; something we don't like to make a habit of, but needed to on that day). We were one of only a couple other folks in the room, two separate parties at the bar and one table just finishing up. The atmosphere was cozy, the service friendly, and the food outstanding. We shared the warm spinach salad, the sausage platter (we picked bratwurst, bockwurst, and their special game sausages: elk/cheddar/jalapeño, and rabbit), sauerbraten, and two German fruit teas (cinnamon bun and raspberry vanilla). The spinach salad was incredible and came with mushrooms, onions, a pickled egg (so yummy) and a perfectly sour bacon-mustard vinaigrette. I'm a fiend for anything vinegary and mouth-puckering, and this salad was the perfect balance of fresh, zingy, and satisfying. The sausage platter was delicious, especially the two game sausages that our server recommended. The sauerbraten was hearty and warm, perfect for a snowy night. We LOVED the fruit teas as well--so much that I ended up buying them from a German store online. The portions were huge; we took home most of the entrees and had a whole second meal from them. I was a little under the weather so my appetite was not as large as usual, plus we were rushing a bit to leave before their 10pm closing time, but even if the stars were aligned it would've been wayyyy more food than we could've eaten in one meal. This was our favorite meal in Tahoe. The ONLY thing I would warn somebody about: if you go big on the sauerkraut/rotkohl, you may pay for it later with some of the most offensive wind-breaking of your life. You've been warned.

Came back for Thanksgiving dinner and this was another exceptional evening of great service and deliciousness. Started again with the pretzel because it's the best ever. We quickly ran out of cheese sauce so had to get another container that was $.50 and worth every penny. Normally we also get the cauliflower and Brussels but I was determined to finish my meal and passed. We ordered the Schweinshanx, Spaetzle with Cheese, Schnitzel and Kielbasa sausage for 4 adults and had plenty of food to share. I don't recall having the fries our last trip, but certainly enjoyed this time around. They were nicely twice fried and very crunchy on the exterior while the interior was creamy. There's a few items I haven't had yet so have my eyes set on them for the next visit.
